Watercolour workshop - hare and a big bee!
My November watercolour workshop is going to be a half day painting a hare and a big bee! In the beautiful setting of the village of Burpham in West Sussex, set in the South Downs National Park with a stunning panoramic view of the town of Arundel and it's castle.
Date, time and location
The workshop will run on the morning of Saturday the 21st of November 2026, from 9.30am to 1.30pm in Burpham Village Hall, Burpham, Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9RR.
There is a large (free) car park adjacent to the Hall.
What will the workshop cover?
During the morning I will explain and demonstrate the following topics:
- choosing your colours before you start and the importance of playing with your pigments long before you touch your brush to paper;
- the confidence and cohesion that comes from working with a limited palette;
- choosing a good composition to help tell the story;
- painting wet into wet;
- painting wet on dry;
- charging in colour upon colour and letting the magic happen;
- soft edges and hard edges, their role and how to create them;
- creating texture;
- lifting out;
- splattering.
And probably a lot more!
Who is the workshop suitable for?
The workshop is designed to be for beginners or those who have painted with watercolour for a while and would like to try something new or improve on the results that they are achieving.
Or, if you would simply like to have a go at painting a hare and a bee in the way that I do :)
Each stage of the painting will be demonstrated. Plenty of time has been built in for everyone to be able to complete their own lovely hare and bee. And I have deliberately kept the class size small so that I am able to give individual guidance and assistance throughout the morning.
You do not need to be able to draw.
Materials
All of the materials needed will be provided and are included in the cost, along with tea/coffee and cookies/cake on tap.
Numbers, cost & booking a place
The workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 people.
The fee for the workshop is £55.00. Payment to be made in advance by Bank transfer. If you need to cancel before the day, a refund will only be possible if I am able to replace your attendance with another participant.

What to wear!
As we will be doing a little splattering of pigment during the painting of this hare and her bee, it would be best not to wear your brand new white top!
Lunch afterwards
Literally, step next door and you could have lunch in The George in Burpham pub.
Or, just a couple of miles away, Arundel town has lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
